The Rig Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for leading, planning, and overseeing all mechanical, electrical, and structural maintenance activities on the offshore platform. This role ensures asset integrity, equipment reliability, safe work execution, and regulatory compliance across all maintenance disciplines. The Superintendent coordinates maintenance crews, contractors, vendors, and offshore leadership to support continuous operations.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance Leadership & Oversight

  • Lead all mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic maintenance activities for the platform.
  • Supervise maintenance technicians, electricians, mechanics, and contract personnel.
  • Provide technical direction, troubleshooting support, and daily guidance.
  • Ensure staffing levels, work assignments, and competency development meet operational needs.

Planning, Scheduling & Execution

  • Oversee the creation and execution of preventive and corrective maintenance plans.
  • Partner with onshore planning teams to coordinate long-range maintenance schedules.
  • Prioritize maintenance tasks based on risk, operational impact, and regulatory deadlines.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities follow safe work permits, JSAs, and OEM specifications.

Asset Integrity & Reliability

  • Maintain asset integrity of rotating equipment, cranes, pumps, compressors, generators, and structural components.
  • Manage predictive maintenance programs (vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis, etc.).
  • Identify equipment failures, analyze root causes, and implement permanent corrective solutions.
  • Ensure readiness and reliability of critical safety equipment.

Compliance, Safety & Documentation

  • Enforce all company safety policies, SEMS requirements, and regulatory standards (BSEE, USCG, OSHA).
  • Prepare maintenance reports, equipment histories, and audit-ready documentation.
  • Support incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are completed.

Contractor & Vendor Management

  • Oversee third-party maintenance contractors, inspectors, and specialized service teams.
  • Validate scope, review bids, and ensure contractors adhere to safety and performance expectations.
  • Coordinate with OEMs on major equipment repairs and upgrades.

Budget & Inventory Control

  • Monitor maintenance budgets, labor costs, and spending for materials and consumables.
  • Maintain inventory of critical spares and ensure availability for unplanned repairs.
  • Work with procurement to optimize costs without compromising safety or reliability.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering is a plus.

Experience

  • 10+ years of offshore maintenance experience.
  • 5+ years in a maintenance leadership or supervisory role.
  • Hands-on experience with rotating equipment, electrical systems, hydraulics, and diesel generators.
  • Strong knowledge of BSEE/USCG regulations and offshore safety programs.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under high operational pressure.
  • Proficiency with maintenance management systems (SAP, Maximo, etc.).
  • Strong safety culture and situational awareness.
