Job Description

Ongoing/One Off Ongoing Minimum Commitment Once a week Location

BS231TN

Up to 10 hours What you will do: At Citizens Advice we have a unique insight into the challenges our community is facing. We are seeing the true impact of the cost-of-living crises, and the sheer number of people making difficult choices each day. In the Impact Team, we look for trends and examples of inequality to identify emerging issues. When we’ve identified an issue to focus on, we use our unique data insights to build a clear picture of the issue and the impact it is having on our clients. With this evidence, we campaign for positive change both locally and nationally. This can involve: Raising awareness of the issues among the public, local councillors, MPs, and stakeholders as well as individuals within our own organisation. Creating newsletters, presentations, social media posts, and press releases. Attending council meetings and responding to consultations. Sending letters to stakeholders or help organise events advocating for solutions. Collaborating with the EDI Campaigner and local organisations to strengthen campaigns and enhance collaboration. Although each Citizens Advice office is an independent charity, we are also part of the wider network and frequently collaborate with other offices and the national team on research and campaigns projects. Part of your role as a research and campaigns volunteer would be to keep up to date with national research and campaigns, participate in Cluster Group meetings and collaborate on projects, sharing data and insights to support local and national campaigns. What’s in it for you? Volunteering with us offers a unique chance to truly make a difference in people’s lives while gaining meaningful, hands-on experience. You’ll dive into real issues like benefits, debt, and housing, seeing firsthand how they affect individuals and communities. Along the way, you’ll build essential skills in communication, research, campaigning, and client engagement—skills that are highly sought after across a wide range of professions. Whether you're aiming for a career in research, public relations, journalism, politics, or campaigning, this opportunity gives you the platform to stand out. In a crowded job market, real-world experience can be the key that sets you apart. You'll not only gain practical knowledge but also develop a powerful portfolio of work that shows your ability to take initiative, work collaboratively, and drive meaningful change. As part of the Impact Team, you’ll connect with professionals from across the Citizens Advice Network and beyond, including councillors and policy influencers. You'll be able to point to specific contributions you’ve made to research and advocacy projects that help shape policy and improve lives. More than that, you’ll demonstrate a genuine commitment to understanding and addressing the complex challenges people face—and show your dedication to making a positive impact in the world. Time Commitment and location: We offer flexibility in the time commitment and frequency of volunteering. The role will be based in our office in Weston-super-Mare but we will also consider working from home as an option and will cover any travel expenses. You do not need any specific qualifications or experience for this role, but the following skills are essential: Friendly, approachable, and non-judgmental, respecting diverse views, values, and cultures. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to understand complex information and explain it clearly. Willingness to learn and follow Citizens Advice’s principles, policies, and confidentiality guidelines. A willingness to undertake training as required. \ We value diversity and are particularly welcoming to applications from disabled people, those with physical or mental health conditions, LGBT+ and non-binary individuals, and people from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities. If you’re interested in becoming a Research and Campaigns Volunteer, or if you have questions about flexibility, location, or how we can support you, please contact us. Citizens Advice North Somerset is an independent charity that provides free, impartial and confidential advice on a range of issues including benefits, debt, employment, housing, consumer problems, family and personal matters, legal procedures, education, health and discrimination. #J-18808-Ljbffr Bristol SU Group
