Job Description

Diamond Foundry Inc. is solving the thermal limitation at the foundation of today's most exciting tech industries -- AI & cloud compute, electric-car power electronics, and 5G/6G wireless. We have managed to produce the world's first single-crystal diamond wafers and are now on a mission to put a diamond behind every chip. We are a fast-growing, profitable unicorn with $515m in funding, executing a multi-billion dollar expansion plan to convert greenhouse gases into diamond wafers using zero-emission energy.

We are seeking a Senior Engineer with Management Experience to lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers in specifying, building, and delivering ambitious automation projects in a high-tech manufacturing environment. The role involves collaboration across multiple engineering disciplines with an experienced team of mechanical, electrical, equipment, materials engineers, and scientists. The position is primarily based in Fremont, with occasional visits to our SSF office.

Responsibilities

  1. Manage a team of Mechanical Engineers by defining project scopes, tracking progress, and ensuring goals are met. Mentor and lead engineers, fostering problem-solving and productivity.
  2. Lead the full lifecycle of tooling development, from design and engineering to building, testing, and optimization.
  3. Oversee the entire vendor process, including specification, selection, quotation, and project transfer to production, ensuring timely and budget-conscious delivery.
  4. Select and integrate off-the-shelf hardware for process control, product quality, and automation tasks.
  5. Collaborate with international teams to improve existing equipment designs and develop comprehensive assembly procedures and documentation.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with at least 10 years of engineering experience, including 2+ years managing direct reports.
  2. 10+ years of SolidWorks experience, proficiency in FEA (Ansys), PLC Ladder Logic, and extensive knowledge of UHV vacuum manufacturing equipment.
  3. Experience with robots, robotic integration, laser systems, high-precision linear stages, and high-volume manufacturing.
  4. Skills in machine (mill/lathe) soldering, electrical assembly, and problem-solving in a manufacturing setting.
  5. Experience managing projects and overseeing suppliers/subcontractors from start to finish.

Salary range: $150,000 - $180,000 annually. The position may include company shares. Compensation varies based on experience, duties, and location. Higher-level candidates may receive higher salaries.

We support our employees with comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, flexible spending accounts, retirement plans, life and disability insurance, and employee discounts. Benefits start from day one.

Diamond Foundry is an Equal Opportunity Employer, committed to diversity and inclusion. We comply with all applicable laws and prioritize a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment, including physical requirements for safety and efficiency.

  • Use of PPE and adherence to safety policies.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, grasp, reach, lift, bend, twist, climb, balance, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, talk, hear, see, manipulate fine objects, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Use of ladders, stairs, driving, or foot controls may be required.
