Title: Family Advocate
Location: Cameron Willacy County
Shift: Mon – Fri 8:00am-5:00pm; flex- evening and weekend as needed
Pay: Commensurate on experience
General Description
Primary role is to provide direct victim advocacy through case management, accompaniment, follow -
up, referrals, care coordination, and other support services to the child victim and the non-offending
family members. Responsible for assisting the victim and non-offending family throughout all phases of
the process from investigation to prosecution. Works under moderate supervision with latitude for the
use of initiative and independent judgment.
Examples of work performed
•Serve as an Advocate for victim and non-offending family caregiver.
•Case management: Assists in identifying child and family needs to access medical, social, educational,
and other appropriate services.
•Care coordination: Organizes child and family care activities, follow up on referrals to ensure safe,
appropriate and effective care.
• Coordinates/Communicates with CAC Staff, MDT Members and non-offending caregivers to assist in
the completion of Commercial Sexual Exploitation Identification Tool (CSE-IT).
Education, Training, and Experience (including licensure and certification)
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or University with a major in social work,
psychology, or a field related to human behavior.
At least 1 year of experience working in the social services field. Working with child victims of
abuse preferred.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
Must pass a criminal history check, background check, and CPS registry check.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
•Knowledge of basic casework principles, documentation and general community resources.
•Responsible for care coordination, which involves organizing care activities among different services
and providers, and across various facilities.
•Knowledge in interviewing techniques and data collection.
•Ability to communicate effectively with strong organizational skills.
•Knowledge and understanding of program guidelines, policies and procedures and ability to carry out
responsibilities.
•Skills in maintaining an effective working relationship with co-workers and other staff
•This position may consist of employee working 80% of the time in the office and up to 20% of the time
in the community.
•Computer literate
•Knowledge of trauma informed care, which emphasizes physical, psychological, and emotional safety,
to help survivors rebuild a sense of control and empowerment.
•Must maintain a safe driving record.
