Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary:

The Events Assistant will support the Director of Events & Experience in promoting and executing high-profile events hosted by the Dean and College leadership. These include academic ceremonies, alumni celebrations, student showcases, and donor engagement events. From concept to completion, the assistant will help develop compelling visual and written content across digital and print channels to elevate the College's brand and ensure a polished, professional presentation.

This position offers hands-on experience in event marketing, graphic design, social media, and live event support. The ideal candidate is creative, detail-oriented, and eager to gain professional skills in communications and event coordination within a STEM-focused, academic setting.

Requirements:

Key responsibilities include: Designing printed materials and digital graphics for event promotion and execution
  • Drafting and creating event-related communications (email invites, e-newsletter advertisements)
  • Supporting social media promotion before, during, and after events
  • Assisting with event setup, photography, guest check-in, and breakdown
  • Collaborating with College staff, faculty, and student organizations to ensure cohesive messaging and branding
  • Maintaining an organized archive of marketing materials and event assets
Job Requirements:
  • Strong Communication Skills: Ability to write clear, engaging content for emails, social media, signage, and promotional materials.
  • Graphic Design or Visual Content Creation Skills
Experience with tools like Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar to create flyers, digital signs, and social media graphics.
  • Basic Marketing Knowledge
Understanding of target audiences, messaging, branding, and how to promote events effectively.
  • Social Media Savvy
Familiarity with managing Instagram, LinkedIn, or other platforms - especially in an academic or professional tone.
  • Reliability and Professionalism
Shows up on time, meets deadlines, and represents the College in a polished and dependable way.
  • Event Support Experience or Willingness to Learn
Comfortable assisting with day-of event needs like setup, attendee check-in, photography, and breakdown of events.
  • Attention to Detail
Ensures accuracy in event listings, dates, room numbers, and marketing copy - essential for a technical environment like engineering.
  • Team Collaboration
Works well with staff, faculty, and other student workers across different departments and disciplines.
  • Proactive and Self-Motivated
Able to take initiative, ask questions, and follow through without needing constant supervision.
  • Interest in STEM or Higher Education Environments
While not essential, enthusiasm for engineering, innovation, or academic life helps with understanding the audience and context.

While this position is housed within the College of Engineering, students outside of the school are invited to apply to be considered.

Additional Information:

This is an excellent opportunity for a student interested in marketing, communications, event planning, or design-especially within a higher education or engineering environment. Paid training will be provided to learn the College's email system (Emma) and registration system (Stova).

Physical Demands Summary:

This job requires lifting or carrying general equipment or supplies (up to 30 pounds) to and from events.

Wage Rate:
$11.25 p/hour
