Description


The Dean of Workforce Development shall report to the Vice President for Workforce Development. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • In conjunction with the VP for Workforce Development, overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of various workforce development initiatives, including training programs, apprenticeships, and career services.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with employers, educational institutions, community organizations, and government agencies to foster collaboration and support for workforce development efforts.
  • Securing funding through grants and other sources, managing budgets, and ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Oversees and coordinates the activities of the department's advisory board, including meeting planning, communication, and strategic engagement.
  • Staying informed about workforce development trends and policies, advocating for initiatives that support a skilled workforce, and representing the organization's interests to relevant stakeholders.
  • Represent the Workforce Development division at local, regional, and/or statewide events and in some cases, stand in when the Vice President for Workforce Development is unavailable.
  • Identifying and addressing the skills gaps in the local workforce, designing training programs to meet employer needs, and connecting job seekers with employment opportunities.
  • Establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) to track program effectiveness and impact, and using data to identify areas for improvement.
  • Providing leadership and guidance to a team of professionals involved in workforce development, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Engaging with the broader community to promote workforce development initiatives and ensure that programs are accessible to all members of the community, including underserved populations.
  • Developing and implementing recruitment strategies to increase the number of individuals participating in workforce development programs.
  • Working with businesses to identify their workforce needs and develop customized training solutions.
  • Representing the division at local and state workforce development meetings and conferences.
  • Developing and implementing marketing and outreach strategies to promote workforce development programs.
  • May serve on various campus committees as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
  • Nothing contained herein shall limit the President or VP for Workforce Development in assigning the employee to any of the various college activities for which they would be qualified in order to meet the needs of NMJC.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree from an accredited college/university;
  • Degree preferred in disciplines of management, marketing, communication, or business administration.
  • Three to five years of experience in delivering and developing training & establishing relationships with employers, preferred.
  • Experience with collegiate student services, preferred.

  • Ability to lead, motivate, and manage staff, develop strategic initiatives, and inspire a shared vision for workforce development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences, including stakeholders, partners, and the public.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills to oversee programs, budgets, and staff, ensuring efficient and effective operations.
  • An understanding of workforce development principles, best practices, and relevant legislation
  • Proficiency in budget development, financial reporting, and resource allocation to ensure the financial sustainability of workforce development programs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including employers, community organizations, and educational institutions
  • Ability to analyze data, track performance metrics, and use data to inform decision-making and program evaluation.
  • Strong computer skills and general working knowledge of software, programs, and applications.
  • Skill in critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Knowledge of department and NMJC policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of negotiation methods, techniques, and practices.
  • Knowledge of OSHA laws, regulations, and requirements.
  • Knowledge of human resource laws, regulations, and stipulations.

NMJC has entered into a partnership with Nor Lea Hospital to operate the Thunderbird Health Center, ensuring that high-quality healthcare services will be readily accessible to the campus community. The Thunderbird Health Center is available at no cost to NMJC students, faculty, and staff. Participants will not need insurance to access limited primary-care services at the Thunderbird Health Center.


Annual CORE (Center Of Recreational Excellence) Corporate Membership is for full-time employees and their eligible family members.


- NMJC offers a campus Wellness Program to promote individual wellness among members of the campus community through education and prevention. This program requires full-time employees to take ONE (1) hour each week from work to participate in physical activity. To sign up for this program, you must complete the NMJC Wellness Program Participation form and turn it in to the Human Resources Office.

Staff Tuition Waiver - A full-time employee of NMJC, their spouse, and eligible children are entitled to a total of nine (9) credit hours of tuition-free credit courses per semester, including course fees. In addition, a full-time employee of NMJC, their spouse, and eligible children can take (1) community education course/offering at no cost per semester, provided (i) NMJC employed the full-time employee as of the date of registration for such class or classes and (ii) the minimum number of paid enrollees has been attained to offer the class.
A full-time employee of NMJC, their spouse, and eligible children are each entitled to one (1) non-credit workforce training/program per fiscal year, provided: (i) NMJC employed the full-time employee as of the date of registration for such training/program and (ii) the minimum number of paid enrollees has been attained to offer the class.
