Job Description

A K-12 educational institution in Woodstock, IL, is seeking a skilled Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) for a contract position lasting the school year. This role is ideal for an experienced professional dedicated to supporting visually impaired students by enhancing their independence and safety through mobility training.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess the orientation and mobility needs of students with visual impairments.
  • Develop individualized training plans to teach safe travel techniques in school and community settings.
  • Collaborate with educators, families, and other specialists to integrate mobility goals into the broader educational program.
  • Provide mobility instruction using a variety of adaptive tools and techniques.
  • Monitor progress and adjust training strategies as needed.
  • Document student progress and maintain accurate records.
  • Participate in team meetings and professional development opportunities.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS certification preferred).
